The relocation of the Miami Open Tennis Tournament from Key Biscayne to Hard Rock Stadium provided an opportunity to change the tournament from “tennis in the park” to a vibrant event that reflects the nightlife and diversity of Miami.
Designed using demountable stadia, Hard Rock Stadium’s parking lot is transformed for two weeks each year into a world-class event campus that includes a 5,000-seat Grandstand stadium, 12 tournament courts, 18 practice courts, and a championship court built within the NFL facility. The only permanent element, Dolphin Plaza, becomes the hub for activity and tailgating at football games.
