Jonathan Disbrow Interviewed by Architecture Lab

Jonathan Disbrow, AIA, NCARB, and founding partner of Disbrow Iannuzzi Architects, was recently featured in Architecture Lab in an interview discussing the studio’s design philosophy, process, and approach to material exploration.

The conversation focuses on the role of “Organizing Ideas” in shaping each project from early discussions with the client through to the final built work.

“For me, every project must have a clear set of over-arching Organizing Ideas. That term is both inference and activity,” said Disbrow. “My goal is always to weave together overlapping concepts into a refined piece of architecture where the original inspiration is celebrated.”

“Every project starts with a series of detailed conversations with clients to learn about their aspirations and interests, along with research on the project site, its history, its context, and its location. These conversations lead to the Organizing Ideas that give shape to the project.”

The feature includes a discussion of the Lakeside Residence, where the client’s background as an Asian art curator, family history in the lumber industry, and material exploration of black slate and white ash contribute to the home's character.
